The work of Karl Marx has been taken up by a huge range of American writers, from a wide variety of perspectives. Harry Harootunian is the Max Palevsky Professor of History Emeritus at the University of Chicago and an adjunct senior scholar at the Weatherhead East Asian Institute, Columbia University. He is the author of Marx after Marx: History and Time in the Expansion of Capital and, most recently, Uneven Moments: Reflections on Japan’s Modern History.
