A stunning non-fiction book illuminating the secrets of animal camouflage with a search-and-find twist.

Now you see them, now you don’t. Cloaked in a riot of colour, pattern and texture are a dozen creatures – from chameleons and polar bears to Gaboon vipers and mimic octopuses – that have unique and impressive techniques for staying out of sight. As we travel around the planet, fact-packed pages for each of these twelve animals are interspersed with clever and beautifully illustrated search-and-find spreads that put readers’ newfound knowledge of each elusive creature and its ecosystem to the test.

Marc Martin is the author-illustrator of A Forest, LOTS and A River, shortlisted for The New York Times Book Review Best Illustrated Children's Book Award 2017. Working with watercolour, gouache and pencil, his work is a world of vivid colour, rich textures and the occasional scribble. “In a world of climate change and human encroachment on the natural world,” he says, “better understanding the creatures with whom we share the earth – even when we can't easily see them – is critical. Finding animals, learning about them, and understanding why they hide from predators like us is essential to caring for the planet in today's world.” He lives in Melbourne, Australia, and this is his first book for Walker.
