It addresses the cultural issues permeating Korean society that are rapidly transforming people’s perspectives, language, and lifestyle. These societal issues are discussed in the context of historical and psychological background, the struggle between tradition and changing values, positive and negative impact of the phenomenon, neologism, and potential solutions.

This book can serve as a main textbook as well as a resource for an online class setting and can also be used in a traditional face-to-face class setting.

Seung-Eun Chang earned a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Texas, Austin, USA, specializing in Phonology and Phonetics. After ten years of teaching at the University of California, Berkeley, she joined Georgia Tech in 2018. Several influential linguistics journals have published her work, including Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, Language and Speech, International Journal of Bilingualism, and Heritage Language Journal. She is also an emerging expert in the area of media and culture in language learning. She has been honored to receive grants for her Media Curation project regarding Korean culture from the school’s media center – the Digital Integrative Liberal Arts Center (DILAC).
