Step into a richly detailed world of love, ambition, and moral choice with this luxe edition of George Eliot’s masterpiece.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest novels ever written, Middlemarch offers a profound portrait of English provincial life during a time of social and political change.

Set in the fictional town of Middlemarch, the novel follows the intertwined lives of its residents, most notably the idealistic Dorothea Brooke and the ambitious young doctor Tertius Lydgate, as their hopes, relationships, and aspirations are shaped by society, marriage, and personal responsibility. With remarkable insight and compassion, George Eliot explores the quiet dramas that define human experience and the far-reaching impact of everyday choices.

This elegantly designed edition features:

  • Complete and unabridged text of the classic novel
  • Beautiful faux-leather cover with foil-embossed designs

An exemplar of realism and psychological depth, Middlemarch remains a timeless and deeply rewarding novel, perfect for readers, collectors, and any home library.

Essential volumes for the shelves of every classic literature lover, Chartwell Deluxe Editions include beautifully presented works from some of the most important authors in literary history. Also available from the series: Little Women, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, The Essential Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe, Anne of Green Gables, The Inferno, Dracula, The Republic, The Iliad, Meditations, and Irish Fairy and Folk Tales.

George Eliot (1819–1880) was the pen name of Mary Ann Evans, born in Warwickshire, England. She was raised in the English countryside and received a strong education, developing early interests in literature, philosophy, and social thought. Eliot began her career as a translator, editor, and critic before turning to fiction. Her novels, including Middlemarch and Silas Marner, are known for their realism, psychological depth, and moral insight. She is widely regarded as one of the greatest novelists of the Victorian era.
