The empowering tale of a knight who emotionally sheds the only identity he’s ever known to discover his true self, from writer Grégoire Laforce and illustrator Charlotte Parent

From the moment he was born, all Milo has ever known is knighthood. He eats, sleeps, and breathes it every moment of his life, never taking his armor off even for a minute. After all, Milo lives in the shadow of generation upon generation of knights before him and feels duty-bound to defend his colony should a dragon ever attack. But while training one day, rain begins to fall and eventually turns Milo’s armor to a pile of rust, leaving the young knight weakened and unable to move. It isn’t until a chance encounter with a court jester, who helps him shed his armor and lay down his spear, that Milo has his first taste of freedom.
Grégoire Laforce is a former military man who’s slowly rediscovering his more childlike side. Through his work in the community, he discovered firsthand the importance of engaging men in preventing gender-based violence. Milo the Knight is his second picture book, following his October 2023 debut, The Lost Drop. He and his family can often be caught having wild kitchen dance parties in their home in Gatineau, Canada. Charlotte Parent is a freelance illustrator and comic artist based in Montréal. She holds a BFA from Concordia University, where she specialized in drawing. She also has an MA in art conservation, and works as an archaeological and world cultures conservator.
