My Experiences in World War II: Observations and Insights of a Naval Intelligence Officer is Lt. Commander Ellery Sedgwick, Jr.’s account of his experiences in the Navy during World War II. They called him Kilroy because he served all over the world—Panama, North Africa, Europe during D-Day, and the Pacific. He often has biting criticism of Admirals and Captains for whom the Army was a greater enemy than Germany or Japan. Samuel Eliot Morrison, who wrote the definitive history of the US Navy in World War II, described Sedgwick as the leading expert in the Navy on the Japanese Kamikaze pilots.

Ellery Sedgwick, Jr. grew up in Boston, attended Harvard College and Harvard Business School, and went to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1934 where he worked for the Federal Reserve Bank and as a securities analyst. After his experience in World War II, he became President of Medusa Cement Co. until he retired in 1970. He died in 1991.
Theodore Sedgwick is Ellery Sedgwick, Jr.’s son. He founded Pasha Publications, publishers of news and data on the energy industry, and served as US Ambassador to Slovakia from 2010 to 2015.
