'Kimon Nicolaides' The Natural Way to Draw is a sure bet . . . will improve your technique no end' Artists & Illustrators
This essential guide to drawing by renowned art teacher Kimon Nicolaides is valued by both early students of art and accomplished artists alike. Consisting of 64 exercises, The Natural Way to Draw offers in-depth studies to be completed over the course of a year.
Extensively illustrated with reproductions of the work of the Old Masters (including Rubens, Titian and Raphael) to the work of Van Gogh and Picasso, as well as the work of his students, these exercises help you begin to look at people and objects in a fresh way that will be the foundation of your drawing.
Concentrating on mastering the key concepts of drawing that will make a drawing come alive, Nicolaides teaches how to convey gesture and action, expression and feeling in your work. Regarded as an inspiration to a generation of devoted young artists, The Natural Way to Draw captures Nicolaides' concrete system of art teaching.
Born in 1891, Kimon Nicolaïdes was a renowned Greek American art teacher, author and artist, who taught at New York's Art Student's League for fifteen years. He studied with John Sloan and George Bridgman and had a natural talent for teaching. He became an inspiration to a generation of devoted young artists and left behind the concrete system of art teaching presented in his book The Natural Way to Draw. He died in 1938.
