Get to know the plants of the forest with Hansel and Gretel on their exciting way to the gingerbread house and back in this mix of encyclopedia and fairy tale!

Not far from a deep forest there lived mom, dad and their two children—little boy Hansel and little girl Gretel. And because Hansel and Gretel had always been little fidgets, it was no wonder that one day they got lost deep in the woods and while trying to find their way home they came upon a witch’s house made of gingerbread!

What plants did they see during their wandering in and out of the forest and how did it turn out? You can read the whole story and also get really interesting information about the forests, fields, and meadows in this richly illustrated book with seven gatefolds on each spread.

Sabina Konecna lives in a small town near the Moravian Karst. As a little girl, she loved to be read to; as soon as she could read books for herself, she became quite hooked on them. This explains why later she chose to study Czech Language and Literature at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University. During her studies, she discovered the beauty and specialness of Czech. As she comes from an area where an interesting dialect is spoken, dialectology was the area on which she focused her research. Following graduation, for several years she continued to do research work in dialects of the Czech language, at the Czech Academy of Sciences. Throughout this period, she remained in touch with books by working as a proofreader. When the opportunity to work for Albatros Media as a literary editor came along, she grabbed this new challenge with both hands. She very much enjoys her involvement in the creation of beautiful books for children.

Tomas Kopecky is an illustrator of children's books and computer games, working as part of a creative duo with his wife Tereza. He began his career as a pixel art mobile game designer in Prague, and in 2019, he illustrated his first book, A Bug Hotel. In his free time, Tomas enjoys the countryside, mountain biking, skateboarding, board games, and – above all – spending time with his family, including his two daughters and his dog Karlik.

Jakub Cenkl is a Czech illustrator. After enrolling in an Electrical Engineering and Computer Science program, he soon found it wasn't for him and transferred to a teacher-training program in art education. There, he discovered his passion for graphic design and began to learn it in his spare time. When he's not in front of his computer, he enjoys running in the hills to clear his head.
