A beautiful, moving tale about kindness and bravery that has all the hallmarks of a modern classic.

One day, a grumpy tiger wakes to find not one, not two, but three child-cubs upon his back – and try as he might, they will not move. So tiger and children stay together and slowly, gently come to teach one another about bravery, kindness and belonging.

Renowned illustrator Sarah Massini has written and illustrated a deeply empathetic and timeless story that will stay in the heart long after reading.

  • Classic, satisfying storytelling accompanied by exquisite illustrations.
  • Key, relatable themes of shyness, kindness and bravery.
  • Perfect for the whole family to share - and destined to become a childhood favourite.
  • From the illustrator of The Girl and the Dinosaur by Hollie Huges and A Home for Spark the Dragon by Michael Sheen.
Sarah Massini began her career as a graphic designer, where highlights included the design and illustration of a set of postage stamps for the Royal Mail. She then moved to children’s publishing, firstly as an art editor and later as a full-time illustrator and author. She is the critically acclaimed and best-selling illustrator of many books for children including The Girl and the Dinosaur, classics The Little Prince and The Velveteen Rabbit, and most recently A Home for Spark the Dragon with actor and activist Michael Sheen, in support of Shelter. Sarah’s long-held ambition to write as well as illustrate has culminated in Once Upon a Tiger, to be published in 2026 by Simon & Schuster. Her picture books have been translated into 37 languages.
