One Hundred Reasons To Hope: True stories of everyday heroes

English

By (author): Danielle Brown

Illustrated by: Adam Larkum

For all those finding it difficult: the sun will shine on you again and the clouds will go away. Remember that tomorrow will be a good day.

Captain Sir Tom Moore captured the hearts of a nation, as he walked 100 laps of his garden to raise money for the NHS. Captain Sir Tom wished to celebrate many other inspirational stories from this uncertain time, and with his blessing, these one hundred stories make a book of hope for the future. This is a book of gratitude for his inspiration, and a celebration of incredible everyday heroes from across the UK.

These beautifully illustrated true stories of everyday heroes across the nation is introduced by Captain Sir Tom Moore's daughter, Hannah Ingram-Moore. During the pandemic we have found hope in unexpected places, and these one hundred stories of hope - written by Paralympian Danielle Brown MBE - show just how extraordinarily we can work together. We feature well-known stories such as Joe Wicks' family workouts, as well as equally astonishing stories of everyday heroes, such as dancing binmen and fancy-dress postal workers, who brought joy to their neighbourhoods.

These are stories of courage and community, of everyday kindness and perseverance. From the scientists racing to find a vaccine, to frontline workers putting themselves at risk, from clapping together to celebrate keyworkers, to breathing cleaner air, discover one hundred hopeful stories from an uncertain time. With lively and engaging illustrations, these are stories that will help you hope that tomorrow will be a good day.

Because hope starts with one small step . . .

Inspired by, and with the blessing of, one man and his walking frame, a £1 donation will be made to The Captain Tom Foundation for all hardback print sales in the UK and Ireland. The Captain Tom Foundation was created to inspire hope where it is needed most: combating loneliness, helping those facing bereavement, and supporting hospices - and this book celebrates the spirit of this amazing achievement.

Following the recent announcement that The Captain Tom Foundation is closing all payment channels whilst a Charity Commission inquiry into the Foundation remains open, from 7th July Penguin Books Limited shall hold on trust for The Captain Tom Foundation all charitable donation sums received from the sale of the hard back edition of One Hundred Reasons to Hope until such time as those sums can be transferred to the charity.

About Danielle Brown

Adam studied illustration and animation and received a BA followed by an MA from the Edinburgh College of Art. As a student he won a competition to create a short film for MOMI and Channel 4 and once his career producing animated commercials was under way he became an illustrator as well. He has regular columns in the UK and the US. Danielle is a two-times gold medal-winning Paralympian and the first Paralympic athlete to compete on the England able-bodied team. She's now turned her talents to writing children's books and she created this non-fiction book with the support of Captain Sir Tom's family. Captain Tom Moore was born in Yorkshire in 1920. With the outbreak of World War Two he enlisted in the British Army and served throughout the war. He held two Guinness World Records for the largest sum ever raised by an individual charity walk and for being the oldest person ever to have a number one hit single. He lived with his family in Bedfordshire. He set up the Captain Tom Foundation to help people help other people. @captaintommoore
