A joyful picture-book exploration of language and how many ways there are to say 'mum'.

Celebrate mums all over the world in this moving love letter to family bonds and heritage. A stunning tribute to multilingualism, immigration and connecting communities from the creators of My Mother's Tongues.

Amma is a word the child uses for her Indian-American mum. But Angelina, whose family is from Mexico City, calls her mother Mamá. Thea’s mother is Greek and known as Mana. Francisco’s family is from Brazil, where mums answer to Mãe. Aliya is fluent in Arabic, whose word for mother is Umma.

Uma Menon was a National YoungArts Winner for three consecutive years, is a three-time Pushcart Prize nominee, the first Youth Fellow for the International Human Rights Art Festival and has been published in the Washington Post, HuffPost and the Progressive. Uma was 16 years old when she wrote her debut picture book, My Mother's Tongues, illustrated by Rahele Jomepour Bell. She is currently attending Yale Law School. Find her online at theumamenon.com.
