This book, the only first-hand account from the Jordanian perspective of the 1994 peace agreement between Jordan and Israel, is a major contribution to our understanding of the complexities of Arab-Israeli peace negotiations.
In 1994, Jordan and Israel achieved a peace treaty through bilateral negotiations initiated and sponsored by the United States and the Soviet Union. This book reveals in candid detail the difficulties of negotiating with other Arab nations as well as with Israel, the challenge of countering domestic opposition, and the triumph of achieving an agreement.
Abdul Salam Majali is a veteran of Jordan's wars with Israel and a former Director of the Jordanian Royal Medical Services. He led Jordan's delegation to the bilateral peace negotiations with Israel and, when he signed the peace treaty, was Prime Minister of Jordan.
Jawad A. Anani was the last Chief of the Royal Court under the late King Hussein. Having served as minister in several cabinets of the Jordanian government, he was senior member of the Jordanian delegation to the Middle East peace process.
Munther J. Haddadin served in the rehabilitation and development of the Jordan Valley and on the Jordanian delegation to the peace process. Later he served as Jordan's Minister of Water and Irrigation.|His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal chairs a wide number of international and Jordanian committees and organizations.|A Rhodes Scholar, David Boren is President of the University of Oklahoma. A former governor of Oklahoma, he served as U.S. Senator from Oklahoma from 1979 to 1994 and chaired the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence from 1987 to 1993.
