Elliott Erwitt was one of the greatest of his profession. His photographs have shaped the visual history of the 20th century and continue to have an impact in the 21st century. Although Erwitt's work spans several decades and continents as well as numerous themes, it is always instantly recognisable. His spontaneous and original visions speak of true artistry without ever appearing artificial.
For this collection, Erwitt himself selected the photographs that he considers to be his best. Anyone leafing through this carefully edited retrospective will be filled with a nostalgic mood, a sense of wonder - and an enduring feeling for the richness of life.
Text in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish.
Elliott Erwitt, who was born in Paris in 1928 to Russian parents, came to the U.S. in the late 1930s. After establishing himself as a magazine photographer over the next decade and a half, he joined the renowned Magnum photo agency in 1953. In addition to his work for magazines, he also had great success as an advertising photographer. Elliott Erwitt died at the end of November 2023 at the age of 95.
