About Cheryl M. FerrisCynthia Trowbridge
Dr. Trowbridge has taught at UT-Arlington since 2004 and has been a BOC certified athletic trainer (AT) since 1993. She serves as an associate professor for the athletic training education program and teaches within the Athletic Training Masters program at UT-Arlington. Cindy is actively engaged in research on the clinical effectiveness of therapeutic modalities including diathermy electrical stimulation whole body vibration and cryotherapy. She has presented abstracts at national conferences and continues to publish research data. Cindy has been an AT with Olympic-level sports and traveled with the Bobsled and Skeleton teams. She served on the sport medicine teams for the Winter World University Games (2003) and the Beijing Paralympics (2008). She also has worked with USA Basketball and travelled to the 3x3 Basketball World Championships (18 and under) in Madrid Spain (2012) and Jakarta Indonesia (2013). She is a Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer for National Athletic Trainers Association (2014) and was recently awarded the Christine M Bonci Award for Excellence in Athletic Training Scholarship from the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association (2021). In her spare time she enjoys live music international travel skiing hiking and cycling. As a certified/licensed athletic trainer since 1994 Cheryl has practiced and taught the biomechanical paradigm in orthopedic health care while employed by Waynesburg University in the Athletic Training Education Program and has instructed undergraduate athletic training and graduate exercise science and sports studies and health science students at California University of Pennsylvania. Also she provided health care services for sports teams as an athletic trainer at South Fayette High School and for physically active individuals at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Academically she has published journal articles and abstracts and presented on the topics of lower extremity training and ACL injuries in females as well as Type 1 diabetes and Celiac disease in sports. Cheryl was employed as an independent consultant for Expert Medic and the Aircast Foundation/Extremity War Trauma Research Foundation for 4 years as she contributed to electronic health records projects and grant funding.' She has served the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Society and the Board of Certification for over 20 years and volunteered at various events such as Breast Cancer 3-Day walks and marathons. A struggle with health issues led Cheryl to become a Certified Bowenwork® Practitioner in 2018 and Tensegrity MedicineÔ Practitioner in 2020. Both of these practices utilize the biotensegrity paradigm when looking at the human body in its wholeness. Cheryl is currently the owner of Lucia Health LLC outside of Pittsburgh PA where she uses complimentary forms of manual therapy and body-mind techniques to assist the innate healing capacity in individuals.' Her continued learning journey includes becoming a licensed massage therapist in 2022. In her spare time she enjoys live music and doing anything outdoors.
