Phonics for Pupils with Special Educational Needs, 2nd edition is a systematic, synthetic phonics programme designed for learners with additional needs, providing a fun and accessible resource for pupils with SEN of any age. The evidence-led programme offers a refreshingly simple and accessible approach to the teaching of phonics, breaking it down into manageable core elements and providing a wealth of accompanying activities. Each book in the series gradually builds on pupils’ understanding of sounds and letters and provides scaffolded support for children to learn about the speech sounds of the English language and their matching letters.

The Teacher’s Manual accompanies activity books 1-7 of the Phonics for Pupils with Special Educational Needs programme. Including thorough guidance on how to deliver all the activities, it is an essential resource for understanding the evidence-led rationale behind the programme’s design and structure. The Teacher’s Manual ensures that both schools and individuals can successfully implement the programme and make the best use of the resources, enabling their pupils to make progress and achieve.

A new addition to the Phonics for Pupils with SEN set, this book provides instructions for using the updated activities with pupils, along with new guidance on using a range of access strategies to support pupils with differing needs of all ages. It includes comprehensive assessment materials, as well alphabetic code charts, word lists, picture cards and a vocabulary builder. To support teachers to best deliver the programme, a study guide is also included which can be used to work through all of the Teacher’s Manual and support continuing professional development. Supplementary video content is also included, providing examples of activity delivery.

This manual is an invaluable resource to support easy and effective delivery of the programme. It is designed for teachers, teaching assistants, tutors and anyone else looking to use the Phonics for Pupils with SEN activity books to provide a fun, accessible way of teaching literacy.
