Quasi-Experimental Research in Second Language Acquisition: A Practical Guide is a collection of innovative essays focusing on quasi-experimental designs in second language (L2) research, offering helpful insights into conducting robust, replicable, and ethical research.

While pure-experimental research designs have received more attention in applied linguistic communities, quasi-experimental methods have been largely overlooked, even though they provide similar advantages with fewer limitations. In this volume, world-renowned scholars address key issues related to conceptualizing and conducting L2 quasi-experimental research, including sampling practices, materials development, conducting research in authentic classrooms, ethical considerations, and research with young learners. With this broad coverage, the book is comprehensive, accessible, and practical for both beginners and experienced researchers. Each chapter is structured to promote ease of learning, providing both theoretical background and practical guidance through a “how-to” section. This is further divided into two engaging parts that focus on problem-solving and hands-on activities and exercises.

This volume is an essential resource for undergraduate and graduate students in applied linguistics, as well as researchers interested in research methods and classroom-based research.
