Reading Champion offers independent reading books for children to practise and reinforce their developing reading skills.

Fantastic, original stories are accompanied by engaging artwork and a reading activity. Each book has been carefully graded so that it can be matched to a child's reading ability, encouraging reading for pleasure. Perfect for the 4-5 year old beginner reader or those reading book band red.

This story is part of Reading Champion, a series carefully linked to book bands to encourage independent reading skills, developed with Dr Sue Bodman and Glen Franklin of UCL Institute of Education (IOE)

Sue Graves (Author)
Sue Graves has been a freelance children's author for more than 17 years. She has written over two hundred books for children from pre-school up to 15+ years. She writes fiction and non-fiction, plays and poetry across the age ranges.

Sue loves reading all sorts of books and is at her happiest when she has a book in her hand. She also loves painting in watercolours, playing tennis and badminton and going for long walks in the country with her husband and children.

Marie Bollmann (Illustrator)
I am a freelance illustrator and artist specializing in children's media. I was born in a quaint historical town called Münster in the West of Germany. There, I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Design, majoring in Illustration. Today I am based in Hamburg, a big northern city. I love working digitally and in traditional media, or a combination of both. In my illustrative work I strive to be colourful and detailed with loveable and humorous characters. I want my work to be inclusive and promote positivity, while also being able to convey information. I have a particular interest in non-fiction combined with story.
