Reading Champion: The Wind

English

By (author): Sue Graves Elif Balta Parks

Illustrated by: Elif Balta Parks

This book is part of Reading Champion, a series carefully linked to book bands to encourage independent reading skills, developed with UCL Institute of Education (IOE)

The Wind is a non-fiction text explaining the effects of the wind. The simple sentence structure offers readers the opportunity for an independent reading experience with the support of the illustrations.

Reading Champion offers independent reading books for children to practise and reinforce their developing reading skills.

This early non-fiction text is accompanied by engaging artwork and a reading activity. Each book has been carefully graded so that it can be matched to a child's reading ability, encouraging reading for pleasure.

About Sue GravesElif Balta Parks

Sue Graves has been a freelance children's author for more than 17 years. She has written over two hundred books for children from pre-school up to 15+ years. She writes fiction and non-fiction, plays and poetry across the age ranges. Sue loves reading all sorts of books and is at her happiest when she has a book in her hand. She also loves painting in watercolours, playing tennis and badminton and going for long walks in the country with her husband and children. Elif Balta Parks is a business graduate whose love of drawing led her to change her life and become an illustrator. She studied independently for several years, developing her style and then attended Central Saint Martins college before beginning her career as an illustrator. Since 2012 Elif has illustrated over 30 children's books and is passionate about engaging young readers' imaginations with her work. She lives in more than one place but always has her sketchbook at her side.
