The USS Rasher had an extraordinary record in World War II: she sank 18 enemy ships and destroyed 99,901 tons-the second highest tonnage of the war. Her fifth war patrol is the stuff of legends. Peter Sasgen was born in Illinois in 1941. After graduating from college in Philadelphia, he served in the U.S. Navy and later worked as a graphic designer and photographer in Washington, D.C. He is the author of a technothriller about submarines titled War Plan Red.
