Social work practice involves working with and supporting people with mental health problems in many settings and across the life span. Growing as a reflective and informed practitioner is central to one′s development as a student social worker and as a registered social worker. With a focus on legislation, policy and practice, this book draws on excerpts from seminal writing, journal articles, policy papers, government initiatives, statistics and user perspectives and invites readers to deepen their appreciation and understanding of social work practice in the mental health context.
John Archambeault is a senior lecturer in social work at Kingston University and contributes to both undergraduate and graduate qualifying courses. He has over 15 years of health and mental health social work experience and also works as a senior social worker at the Henderson Hospital, a residential therapeutic community offering group psychotherapy to treat persons with personality disorder. He holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. He is also a qualified acupuncturist with a special interest in treating persons with substance misuse problems, emotional difficulties and stress.
