Student mobility and school choice are rising, and schools are tasked with building stable, predictable environments for students who enter at any point in the year. Drawing on more than a decade of school leadership and original research on student transiency, this book will help school and district leaders create the consistent environments these students need.

Through real-world examples, leadership reflections, and actionable strategies, you’ll find out how to help students experience belonging, connection, and meaning, even when their educational paths are fragmented.

With this book’s practical roadmap, you’ll finally have the help you need to tackle the growing problem of student mobility and give students the supportive school environment they deserve.

Tyler Watkins, Ed.D., is the principal of Petal High School, one of Mississippi’s top-rated high schools and a 2022 National Blue Ribbon School. Dr. Watkins earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership from William Carey University, where his research focused on the academic effects of student transiency. He lives in Petal with his wife, Katie, and their children, Lowe and Cohen.
