Russian multinationals are playing an increasingly important role in the world economy, particularly in some key sectors such as oil, gas and metallurgy. At the same time, Russian multinationals differ in many respects from multinationals from other countries in that they often receive special treatment from the Russian government, and, because of past experiences, international investors are often reluctant to invest in them. This book presents a comprehensive overview of Russian multinationals.  It discusses the rise of Russian multinationals, examines Russian multinationals' activities in key sectors, analyses the relationship between Russian multinationals and the Russian government and between Russian multinationals and international investors, and concludes by assessing how Russian multinationals are likely to develop in future.

Andrei Panibratov is Professor of Strategic and International Management at the Graduate School of Management (GSOM), St. Petersburg State University, Russia where he teaches contemporary strategic analysis and international business strategy courses. He holds a PhD in Economics from St. Petersburg State University, an MBA degree from the University of Wales (UK), and a Doctoral degree from Moscow State University of Management (Russia). Professor Panibratov has participated in consultation and research projects for the World Bank (USA), UMIST (UK), Aalto University School of Economics and Tampere University of Technology (Finland) and European and Russian companies. He is a visiting professor at Lappeenranta University of Technology (Finland) where he teaches corporate strategy in emerging markets for international master students. Professor Panibratov’s research interests include the strategy of western multinational enterprises in Russia, marketing decisions when going abroad, internationalisation of emerging economy companies, outward FDI from Russia, and internationalisation of Russian firms. He is the author and co-author of a number of monographs, case studies, and articles published in Russia and abroad.
