Marleen Lammers is ’n vryskutskrywer met ’n passie vir kinderstories. Alhoewel sy oorspronklik van Nederland is, het sy die grootste deel van die afgelope dekade-en-’n-bietjie in verskeie Suid-Afrikaanse lande spandeer terwyl sy meestal in die niewinsgewende-sektor werk. Sy het haar eerste prenteboek in 2019 saam met Penguin Random House uitgegee, en die kinderliteratuurgogga het haar gebyt. Sy hoop om aan te hou om kinders deur stories te bekoor en sodoende ’n liefde vir boeke by hulle te kweek.
DIE ILLUSTREERDER
Shannon van Schalkwyk, gebaseer in die skilderagtige stad Kaapstad, floreer buite op sonnige dae, waar sy die wonders van die natuur geniet, en binnenshuis met ’n koppie tee wanneer dit reën. Haar lewenslange fassinasie met voëls help haar om hierdie geveerde vriende lewendig te maak deur haar illustrasies, geïnspireer deur hul vermaaklike gedrag in hul natuurlike habitat. Shannon se veelsydige agtergrond in grafiese ontwerp, konsepkuns, en animasie maak haar ’n ware kreatiewe verkleurmannetjie, wat nou in kinderboekillustrasie skitter.
THE AUTHOR
Marleen Lammers is a freelance writer with a passion for children’s stories. While she’s originally from the Netherlands, she spent most of the past decade-and-a-bit living in various countries in Southern Africa, mostly working in the nonprofit sector. She published her first picture book with Penguin Random House in 2019 and caught the children’s literature bug. She’s hoping to keep engaging kids through fun stories and making them love books in the process.
THE ILLUSTRATOR
Shannon van Schalkwyk, based in the scenic city of Cape Town, thrives outdoors on sunny days, soaking up nature’s magic, or indoors with a cup of tea, enjoying the comforting patter of rain. With a lifelong fascination for birds, she brings these feathered friends to life through her illustrations, inspired by their entertaining behaviour in their natural habitat. Shannon’s versatile background in graphic design, concept art, and animation makes her a true creative chameleon, now shining in children’s book illustration.
