This book analyzes the function and structure of a system that exerts real power in an area of existence vital to human service, happiness, and productivity: sexuality as it is understood by the celibate/sexual teaching and practice of the Catholic Church.
A.W. Richard Sipe, an ordained Roman Catholic Priest, now retired from active ministry, is married and lives in Maryland, where he is a psychotherapist in private practice. Since 1972 he has held an appointment as lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Currently he serves as chair of the Board of Directors of the Interfaith Sexual Trauma Institute, Collegeville, Minnesota. He is the author of A Secret World: Sexuality and the Search for Celibacy.
