This book offers the first exploration into the development of social enterprises in the Greater China region, consisting of Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Mainland China. By drawing on the research and experience of over a dozen scholars and practitioners from across the area, it offers a picture of how a strong State can play an important role as a catalyst in developing the social entrepreneurship sector, particularly by legitimizing it. Yanto Chandra is Assistant Professor at the Department of Public Policy, with joint appointment with the Department of Management, at the City University of Hong Kong. His research interests are social, sustainable, developmental entrepreneurship, social investment, and entrepreneurship in general.

Linda Wong is a former Professor in the Department of Public Policy at the City University of Hong Kong. She was the founder and director of Project Flame, the City University of Hong Kong’s platform to promote social innovation and social entrepreneurship for students.
