Written specifically for Canadian college students, Cumming presents sociological concepts in easy-to-understand, relatable, and practical terms - with just the right amount of depth. Featuring an authentic narrative writing style, real-world examples and activities, and extensive pedagogical tools, Sociology Unlocked is a student's key to understanding sociology.
Sara Cumming, Professor of Sociology at Sheridan College, spent almost a decade teaching Introduction to Sociology to undergraduates in a university setting before taking on the same role in the college environment in 2013. Her primary research interest is in the area of gender and social inequality. She has written several articles that focus on inequities in Canadian social policies, focusing particularly on social assistance, subsidized housing, subsidized childcare, and student loan programs. In addition, Dr. Cumming has written a number of chapters on the discipline of sociology and its sub-disciplines for textbooks. She is currently engaged in her SSHRC-funded research Community Ideas Factory, a project designed to pinpoint gaps in services in the not-for-profit sector and to find creative solutions in partnership with key stakeholders. In addition to her academic career, Dr. Cumming is the executive director of Home Suite Hope, which unites a network of vital support services for single parent-led families which support them on their journey from poverty to stability.
