The end of the war will bring more than just her husband home . . .
A heart-rending saga of family strife, dreams abandoned and love triumphant - perfect for fans of Josephine Cox, Rita Bradshaw and Catherine Cookson.

After the death of their parents, Faith and her brother are raised by an aunt in Oldham. Growing up protective and strong, Faith becomes the linchpin of the family. And, despite losing her trust in men because of a sordid encounter, she finds love with the charismatic wanderer Samuel Granger.

But when Samuel returns from the Great War, he is a changed man. His recovery from his injuries is slow, and the post-war Depression hits their finances hard. Faith decides they must take in a lodger.

A French widow, Leonie, and her baby move in, and she and Faith become close friends. But Leonie is holding on to a secret that threatens to destroy everything Faith loves . . .
