This collection of over 200 images provides an illustrated account of the development of the South Wales Coalfield, once one of the largest and most productive in Britain. David Owen left school to train as a miner at Aberaman Colliery and worked underground at Tylorstown No. 9 until its closure on Friday 15th October 1960. He then transferred to Maerdy No. 3 & No. 4 Colliery where he worked underground for the rest of his career.
