When darkness falls, Mabel the tortoise’s fears come alive. She could hide in her shell like her family, but she’s too afraid of the dark! With nowhere to hide, she spends her days fearing the night ahead. When she finally does fall asleep, she has terrible dreams of being locked in the darkness . . .

But when a kind-hearted firefly joins her for tea, he brings with him a spark of hope. He teaches her to be brave in the night, to embrace the darkness and safety of her shell and no longer be ashamed of her fears.

A warm, comforting graphic novel-inspired picture book about a tortoise facing her fears and discovering true friendship when the darkness feels overwhelming.

Anne Montel was born in Nantes in 1988. After studying the applied arts in high school, she earned a degree in visual communication at the Ecole Duperré in Paris. She won second prize in the young talents category at the Angouleme Comics Festival, followed by recognition by the BD-Fil festival in Lausanne in the “Artists of Tomorrow” category. From that point on, Montel devoted herself wholly to her craft, working as a graphic designer, illustrator, and comics artist.

Julien Arnal is an illustrator and 2D animator, born in the landscapes of the Central massif between mountains and plains. He spent his childhood exploring the natural expanses and isolated corners of these very ancient mountains which nourished his practice and influenced his graphic universe. Through his illustrations and animations, he tends to pay homage to the poetry of these wild spaces.

Loïc Clement was born in 1981 in Bruges. He lives in Gironde. Writer of comics for adults and young people, and author of illustrated albums, Loïc is passionate about books. He was a specialist bookseller, literary critic, librarian and trainer in the field of book trades, before launching into writing.
