Letters from those at the front feature throughout, illustrating the remarkable resilience of the men, their wit, humour and concern for those they had left behind. Research, war diaries, local newspapers, and the authors own extensive knowledge are used to bring together local, national and international components of what was the terrible conflict. St Neots and the outlying villages saw 208 of its men killed, whilst hundreds of others were wounded.
