Twenty all-new stories of summertime, full of adventure, fun and a generous pinch of magic. A mermaid who struggles with singing finds her true gift; a lonely child makes a tiny dragon friend at the beach; an ice-cream seller finds a book of magical recipes; and a miserable summer is rescued when a boy finds an antique lamp... Beautifully descriptive language, pacy stories and lively illustrations make for a deliciously moreish collection, perfect for encouraging developing and newly-confident readers.
Mairi Mackinnon (Author)
Mairi Mackinnon has lived in England, Scotland, France, Italy and Spain, and worked as a teacher, translator and tour manager before joining Usborne. Over the years she has written and edited Usborne books in sixteen languages, from Arabic to Welsh. She lives in a house full of thousands of books and many strange musical instruments, from electric cellos to didgeridoos.
Rob Lloyd Jones (Author)
Rob studied Egyptology at university, but never thought he'd do much with it. Since joining Usborne in 2005, he's written loads of books about Ancient Egypt, and on topics ranging from space to the story of Islam. He is also the author of several award-winning historical adventure novels, and a hopeless cook.
Rose Hall (Author)
Rose grew up in Northumberland, studied Physiology at Oxford and looked after orphaned orangutans for a bit. She worked in the charity sector for ten years, writing about issues from renewable energy, to the safety of workers in Bangladesh. For Usborne, she's written books about engineering, business, computers and the environment.
