Strategic Human Resource Planning

This book analyses human resource planning (HRP) function with a strategic lens. Human Resource Management (HRM), being a business-aligned function of organizations, is primarily shaped by HRP. The need for strategic handling of the latter thus results in a revamped nomenclature – SHRP.

In addition to detailing the basic tools and techniques of HRP, this book delves into important strategic areas to transform SHRP as a critical HR function, on which the success of all other HR functions, including the success of organizations depend. The emerging areas of SHRP - post-merger integration of manpower through SHRP, manpower rationalization for organizational change, manpower outsourcing, the use of analytics for predictive decisions on SHRP, AI/ML support for effective SHRP - are some of the key topics that have been discussed in the book.

This book uses organisational examples, case lets/vignettes, and case studies to make the learning process more practice oriented. This book will be useful to students, professionals, practitioners, researchers, and faculty members.

Dipak Kumar Bhattacharyya is Professor of Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management, He was a full-time Professor of XIMB, Bhubaneswar. He has also served as the Director of Centre for Management Education, AIMA, New Delhi as well as the Dean of Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management, Kolkata. He has also previously taught at IIFT, IMT, Ghaziabad and ICFAI Business School. He is currently a Visiting Professor at XLRI, Jamshedpur and NCR, IMT, Ghaziabad, DMI, Patna, Firebird, Coimbatore, IIM, Ranchi, IIM, Rohtak, and IIM, Kozhikode. He has extensive experience in teaching, training, MDP, and consultancy. Three of his major consultancy works were on Human Resource Planning; one for a largest fertilizer manufacturing company, one for a Delhi-based university, and the other one is for an IIT. On Human Resource Planning he has conducted numerous trainings and MDP sessions with several organizations of repute.
