This book is the second in a series of three books designed for online distance-learning students, and is focused on strategic planning and management. It presents a unique perspective on strategic planning by taking selective authors and comparing their positions on the underlying theory and principles of strategic planning and management. The author discusses strategic planning and management by looking at the underlying theory and principles of planning, and then examining two of the prominent planning tools - the Organizational System Analysis and the Skills, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) process. The second part of the book concentrates on the actual planning process: selection of the planning team; a dedicated section relative to the importance of procedures for setting the vision; material on the need for mission statements clearly describing what the organization does; and setting strategic goals that implement tactical objectives, including the timeframes for each one.
David I. Bertocci, Ph.D., is a professor of business, management, and leadership at Kaplan University. He brings a blend of strategic planning and management theory and underlying principles together with practical, hands-on skills from his many years of teaching and business/management positions both in the military and in industry.
