“Joan Aiken is a marvel.” The Guardian

From the beloved author of The Wolves of Willoughby Chase, comes an extraordinary collection of adventures.

Published here as a brand-new anthology for the very first time, each story introduces readers to a host of strange and wonderful characters as well as magical and imaginary parts of the city we never knew existed – an ancient and rather wild part of London called Rumbury Town.

Introduced by Kiran Millwood Hargrave, best-selling author of The Girl of Ink and Stars, this beautiful gift edition hardback, is the perfect read for children thirsty for classic adventure and fun.

Joan Aiken started writing at the age of five. Since the 1960s she wrote full time for both adults and children and published over 100 books. The Wolves of Willoughby Chase and Midnight is a Place have been made into hugely popular television films. Her series about Arabel and Mortimer has been delighting children for decades, both through books and television readings. Joan Aiken was born in Sussex, and was awarded the MBE in 1999. Joan Aiken died in 2004.
