Since the 1990s a huge variety of emergency vehicles have been seen in the Thames Valley area – Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Oxfordshire. In this book, author and photographer Geraint H. Roberts provides a photographic survey of vehicles from the ambulance service, fire and rescue services, police forces and miscellaneous emergency and local, regional, national and voluntary organisations operating in this area during this period. Vehicles covered range from ambulances from the NHS and military organisations, Fire & Rescue Service vehicles from local authority and military brigades, police vehicles from Home Office and non-Home Office (national) police forces and military police. Many were photographed during large events in the Thames Valley, including the Henley Regatta, Tour of Britain cycle races, The Ride of Respect, the King’s Coronation Concert and the Olympic Torch Relay.

Whether your interest is police, fire or associated emergency and rescue services this book is a portfolio of their vehicles. Geraint H. Roberts offers a real flavour of thirty years of the Thames Valley emergency scene, making this lavishly illustrated volume a must for anyone with an interest in the history of emergency vehicles and of road transport in general in this area.

Geraint H. Roberts lives in Oxfordshire and has been interested in and photographing emergency vehicles in the Thames Valley since the 1980s. This is his first book for Amberley Publishing. He has had photographs and articles published in magazines (Fire Cover, PVEC Journal, Emergency Service Times and CBRN World in the UK and Feuerwehr Magazin in Germany) plus photographs published in books (Police Stop!, Police Range Rover Handbook, Police Range Rovers – A Fifty Year Story and An Illustrated History of Fire Engines). He also spent six years editing Fire Cover magazine and special publications for The Fire Brigade Society.
