A heart-warming, fresh and original story about family and friendship from brand-new picture book author, writer and performer Jordan Stephens.

Sunny loves jigsaw puzzles – the bigger the better. When she completes one, she gets a warm, happy honeybee buzz. One day, her Gran gives her a ONE-THOUSAND-PIECE puzzle. Piece after piece, all by herself, she puts together the picture, until … DISASTER! The final piece is missing. Sunny may be small, but she is very determined – so she sets off to find it.

As the day whizzes by in a whirl of new places and friends, Sunny discovers that looking for something is every bit as fun as finding it, and that perhaps the missing piece was there all along …

SHORTLISTED for the Inclusive Books for Children award 2024

Jordan Stephens is a creative, musician, writer and performer, perhaps best known as one half the chart-topping duo, Rizzle Kicks who have recently made a comeback after a 9 year hiatus.

Having spoken publicly about his struggles with mental health, Jordan has been very active in raising awareness around the stigma. His mental health campaign #IAMWHOLE reached over 120 million people online and was mentioned in the Houses of Parliament.

Jordan endeavours to express himself through many different forms of art. His first children’s book, The Missing Piece, published in 2022 is a self-influenced story about joy and connection. It was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize and Inclusive Books for Children Award. His second children’s book, See for Yourself, publishes in May 2025.

Beth Suzanna is a London based illustrator whose uplifting work is rooted in colour and connection. Creating work for picture books, programmes, covers and campaigns. Beth’s work has a strong focus on community and diversity, using bold figurative paper cut shapes or expressive pastel line to create tactile, playful and human work. The Missing Piece was her first picture book.
