Edward S. Holden (1846-1914) was a mathematician and a professor. He served his professorship at the US Naval Observatory. He was the president of the University of California from 1885 to 1888, and a recipient of five honorary degrees. He served as a librarian of the US Military Academy at West Point in 1901.
