Jan Bondeson has made an amazing discovery. The earliest English-language work of fiction to be entirely based on the mystery of Jack the Ripper is published here for the first time. Guy Logan had been active as a London journalist during the latter part of the hunt for the Whitechapel murderer, which spanned the years 1888 to 1891, and established contacts with the Scotland Yard detectives investigating the case. What revelations did he have to make in his 1905 novel, when many people still remembered the Autumn of Terror when Jack the Ripper stalked the Whitechapel streets? Might there be any truth in his suggestion that after the murder of Mary Kelly, the Ripper went abroad to continue his sanguinary career? Did Guy Logan, who was himself something of a man of mystery, know the True History of Jack the Ripper?
Guy Logan was active as a journalist during the latter part of the hunt for Jack the Ripper. He later wrote seven important books of essays on true crime, including Masters of Crime (1928). His literary career came to an end after a disastrous libel suit made by Baroness Abinger, whom Logan thought was dead and accused of murder. Jan Bondeson is a respected true crime writer, and author of ‘The London Monster’, ‘Murder Houses of London’, ‘Rivals of the Ripper’ and other books. He lives in Dunbar, Scotland.
