His publications include Engaging Audiences: A Cognitive Approach to Spectating in the Theatre; Performance and Cognition: Theatre Studies And the Cognitive Turn (co-edited with H. Elizabeth Hart) and Theatre Histories: An Introduction (co-written with Phillip Zarrilli, Carol Sorgenfrei, and Gary Williams). He is a past-president of the American Theatre and Drama Society and the American Society for Theatre Research, and the series editor for the Palgrave Macmillan series Cognitive Studies in Literature and Performance.
