This is Botswana takes the reader on a panoramic journey of discovery - from the arid vastness of the Kalahari Desert to the lush waterways of the Okavango Delta. It is a compelling visual essay on the country, its people and its wildlife. More than 250 stunning photographs provide an exciting and diverse overview of the country. These are complemented by a detailed introductory text that both establishes historical perspective and offers insight into the realities of a country moving hesitantly, but with hope, into a challenging future.
Daryl Balfour is an experienced photojournalist who, with his photographer wife, Sharna, has spent most of the past 30 years in some of southern Africa's wildest areas, capturing them for posterity. Among the publications they have to their credit are Okavango - An African Paradise, Rhino, Etosha and African Elephants, all published by Penguin Random House. The Balfours continue to work extensively on capturing the natural world around them with their photography, and also run and own a specialist safari company taking guests to spectacular locations around the globe. Peter Joyce has produced some 70 titles ranging from travel and wildlife through biography to his specialist subject, history. Among his books are the bestselling South Africa in the 20th Century, The Making of a Nation, This is Namibia and Discover South Africa. Before becoming a full-time writer, he held senior positions with publishing companies in Zimbabwe and with Reader's Digest South Africa. He lives in the United Kingdom.
