In the work Spicer presents another layer of the lesbian experience by photographing homosocial dynamics among women such as the mother daughter relationship, and “feminine activities” like bathing, putting together puzzles, braiding hair, and more. The series is often read from a heteronormative perspective, as we are trained to view all things, as if Spicer’s mother, partner and Spicer herself are all straight women. This further misrepresents the lesbian experience.
