In recent years the tremendous growth of the service sector has outstrippped that of manfacturing in many industrialized nations, causing economists to focus on both the policy issues raised by services and the differences between production and delivery of goods and services. This is the first book-length attempt to analyze trade in services in the Asia-Pacific region. Takatoshi Ito is a professor in the Institute of Economic Research at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo and a research associate of the NBER. Anne O. Krueger is First Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund and a research associate of the NBER. Together they have edited the ten previous volumes in this series.
