Prof. Dr. Heino Engel (1925-2013), born in Bingen am Rhein, was a German architect, architectural theorist, and author. Engel studied architecture in Germany and undertook several extended study trips to Japan and the United States between 1952 and 1964, where he engaged deeply with traditional Japanese architecture and developed his own architectural language. He later ran his own office for architecture and urban planning. His standard work Structure Systems is still considered an indispensable reference for education, design, and architectural practice.
