Rudolf Hess's flight to Britain in May 1941 stands out as one of the most intriguing and bizarre episodes of World War II. He traces the developments which persuaded Hess to undertake his flight without Hitler's knowledge and shows why he chose to approach the Duke of Hamilton. Lord James Douglas-Hamilton read History at Balliol College, Oxford, where he gained his boxing blue and became President of the Oxford Union. He was the author of two other highly successful books, Motive for a Mission: The Story Behind Rudolf Hess's Flight to Britain and The Air Battle for Malta.
