This book revolves around the altering security roles of three pivotal powers – the US, China, and India. Each of these actors has experienced incremental changes in their external roles and behaviour over the last two decades, which are determined by the range of domestic and international factors. As each country works towards performing its revised security roles, the policymakers are subject to dilemmas and challenges that impact policy implementation and conduct. Using the framework of role theory, the book analyses the role evolution of these countries and elucidates its link with their security policies in the Indo-Pacific and on the global stage. Aditi Malhotra is Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Army Journal. Previously, she was co-editor for the Journal for Intelligence, Propaganda and Security Studies (JIPSS) (Graz, Austria). She holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Muenster, Germany. Malhotra was Visiting Fellow at the Henry L. Stimson Center, and the Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies. Previously, she was Senior Research Fellow at the National Institute of Advanced Studies and Associate Fellow at the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS), India. At CLAWS, Malhotra was Deputy Editor of Scholar Warrior. She holds a master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom.
