Collins Big Cat supports every primary child on their reading journey from phonics to fluency. Top authors and illustrators have created fiction and non-fiction books that children love to read. Book banded for guided and independent reading, there are reading notes in the back, comprehensive teaching and assessment support and ebooks available.

As they prepare for their tournament’s final football match, Mathilda and Mia know that every second counts. But Mathilda has only just returned to football after her diabetes diagnosis and Mia has not played goalie all year. Will they find a way to be unstoppable in the finals?

Lime/Band 11 books have longer sentence structures and a greater use of literary language.

Pages 30 and 31 allow children to re-visit the content of the book, supporting comprehension skills, vocabulary development and recall.

Ideas for reading in the back of the book provide practical support and stimulating activities.

Samantha Montgomerie is an author who loves writing for young people. She has written a number of educational readers, middle grade fiction and poetry. She has numerous poems published for adults, found in various anthologies and literary journals. She has worked for over 25 years as an English teacher, and loves seeing young people engrossed in great stories. She lives in New Zealand, where she likes to wander, letting the salt-laced air inspire great plotlines and poetry. Rebecca is a graphic novelist and illustrator working in the UK, creating award winning work which has been published with Quill Tree Books, Harper360 and Jessica Kingsley. Being autistic, they are particularly passionate about bringing more autistic characters into kids stories! Outside of drawing, writing, and cuddling their cat, they also love playing role-playing games with friends, going on deep dives into history and growing vegetables in their humble Bristol garden.
