The first monograph on New York-based firm INC Architecture & Design, celebrating twenty years of work that incorporates joy, utility, and craft
For two decades, INC Architecture & Design has built a practice defined by curiosity, artistry, and an unwavering commitment to the emotional resonance of space. This beautifully designed monograph delves into the studio’s award-winning work, highlighting projects that range from bespoke objects to large-scale urban architecture.
Organized into eight chapters – XXXS, XXS, XS, S, M, L, XL, and XXL – the book invites readers to engage with the firm’s ethos of inclusivity, specificity, and intimacy. The opening chapters showcase INC’s smallest interventions: exquisitely crafted lighting fixtures, furniture pieces, hardware, and residences, including a Brooklyn townhouse and Tribeca apartment. At this intimate scale, the objects and homes reveal a deep engagement with form, tactility, color, and light, demonstrating how the smallest details set the foundation for the themes that recur throughout the book. As the book proceeds, the scale of the project grows, revealing rural homes, restaurants in New York City, the Rockefeller Center Concourse redesign, and hotels, including the event and gallery spaces at the TWA Hotel at JFK International Airport. The book’s structure reinforces one of the firm’s core beliefs: design is a continuum, rather than a hierarchy.
Texts interspersed throughout the book include a lively and insightful conversation with INC’s five principals, led by curator and Pin-Up magazine founder Felix Burrichter, along with original essays by Diana Budds and Camille Okhio exploring INC in the fabric of New York City, and the wisdom and sensitivity INC brings to each project.
