Character-forming moral fables, Viking and Nordic folk and fairy tales take the magic of the natural world and combine it with the practical common sense of the everyday. Good folk are rewarded for their hard work, the honest and the faithful are valued by the gods in a series of themed sections: treasured tales of Bravery, Beasts and Animals, Transformation and Trickery, Trolls and Giants, Tales of Wind, Snow and Sea, all collected in a gorgeous gold-foiled and embossed hardback to treasure and enjoy.

The Flame Tree Gothic Fantasy, Classic Stories and Epic Tales collections bring together the entire range of myth, folklore and modern short fiction. Highlighting the roots of suspense, supernatural, science fiction and mystery stories, the books in Flame Tree Collections series are beautifully presented, perfect as a gift and offer a lifetime of reading pleasure.

Dagrún Ósk Jónsdóttir (Foreword) is a folklorist at the University of Iceland and works for the Icelandic Museum Association. In her research, her focus has mostly been on Icelandic folklore: her BA thesis focused on cannibalism in Icelandic folk legends while her MA thesis discussed modern Icelandic accounts relating to Ouija board traditions. Her PhD thesis in folkloristics focused on women, femininity and gendered power relations in Icelandic folk legends. Her research has also included supernatural beings such as ghosts and the hidden people. Dagrún has been active in the dissemination of folklore, put on exhibitions and recently took part in a big project relating to the settlement of Iceland.
