The contributors to this text on the origins of modern Jordan have based their approach on original fieldwork and archives in Jordan and avoid viewing the Jordanian state in the context of British imperial policy and the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Tariq Tell is a political economist currently teaching at the Centre for Arab and Middle Eastern Studies at the American University of Beirut. He has previously taught at the American University in Cairo and the University of Manchester (UK).
