At the end of the 1960s, the German firm Volkswagen was experiencing significant technical and economic challenges. Plunged into a creative crisis and commercially threatened by more modern rivals designed by its European competitors, the reign of the classic and untouchable VW Beetle and its derivatives was coming to an end.

Volkswagen reacted by creating one of its most legendary cars, the Golf, and from this was born a beautiful coupé named after an African desert wind, the Scirocco. This car became legendary for its forms, created by the Italian designer Giugiaro, and its main objective was to replace the outdated sports-style Karmann Ghia. The Scirocco creative process became a race against the clock for the Volkswagen and Karmann technicians and was fraught with difficulties of all kinds: production, design and economic.

Meticulously researched and beautifully illustrated, this indispensable guide tells the story of the first two generations of the VW Scirocco.
